196cm tall Australian soccer goalkeeper for English Premier League side Middlesborough.
Schwarzer is commanding figure in the goal square and a highly rated shot stopper. His career began with Sydney side Marconi, playing alongside a young Christian Vieri. He then moved to Dynamo Dresden and from there moved to Kaiserslautern, both German clubs. In 1996 he was signed by Bradford City and put in many a good performance for them despite moving on to his current club after only four months.
On the International scene, Schwarzer was for a long time on the outer with the Socceroos. Often considered second or third choice and was not even picked for the squad during Terry Venables reign as Socceroo coach. Currently, however, he is enjoying a speel as Australia's number 1 due to Mark Bosnich's limited chances at Manchester United and Chelsea. Whether this will last now that Bosnich seems to be putting in a few good performances under Claudio Ranieri remains to be seen.
He has been capped 17 times for his country and made his debut against Canada in 1993.
