PSC stands for the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. A joint effort between Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Westinghouse Electric Company, its offices are located in the Mellon Institute on the campus of CMU.
The PSC has five supercomputers: a Compaq Alphaserver cluster with 64 4-processor nodes, a 512 processor Cray T3E, an eight-processor Cray J90, a four-processor Alphaserver 8400 5/300 system, and an Intel cluster with 20 4-processor compute nodes. A second Cray J90 serves as an archival system.
PSC staff are involved in several different areas of research. They include projects with the Department of Energy, biomedical research, networking, neural sciences, and scientific visualization.
