Pernaja (Pernå in swedish) is a
municipality in Eastern
Uusimaa,
Finland, some 80 km from
Helsinki.
It is the oldest municipality in Eastern Uusimaa and it contained before also municipalities of
Lapinjärvi and
Liljendal and city of
Loviisa.
It may also be called as birth place of culture in Finland for creator of finnish literature language, Michael Agricola, was born there in the beginning of 16th century.
Pernaja's land area is 425 km^2 and people are divided by mother tongue as 30 % finnish spoken and 70 % swedish spoken people.
