Microsoft's new portal server formerly named
Tahoe. It is an intranet group portal designed for document sharing and collaboration. It allows organizations to merge disparate data sources (primarily documents) into a common interface. Some of the features are
- Search - which can span file shares, web servers and MS Exchange servers
- Document Management - allowing versioning, collaboration, and routing
- Portal Functionality - customizable through common interfaces
Currently labeled as
Release Candidate 1 it is missing some function points but is rather stable. It does NOT utilize the
.NET technologies that Microsoft has been hyping. However it is another step in shifting Microsoft's focus from the
desktop to the
enterprise.
