Woundweavr's WU is mostly correct; however, there is one position at which the Silver Slugger is a worthwhile award:
pitcher in the
National League. (
American League pitchers, of course, only bat during
interleague games, so the award isn't given out for them, since they might only bat 10 times in a season.)
Members of the Atlanta Braves staff, especially Tom Glavine, have a tendency to pick this award up quite often, due to their tendency to actually take batting practice and care about their hitting, unlike most pitchers.
