In Isaac Asimov's robot/empire/Foundation series, the Spacers are the descendants of those who colonized other planets in the first wave of colonization. They live for several centuries and have large numbers of robots to wait on them. They eventually died out, and the Galaxy was colonized by the Settlers, who did not use robots and had roughly the same lifespan as present-day humans.
