Speyside is the region of
Scotland near the
river Spey in
Eastern Scotland (technically it is part of the
Highlands but there are so many distilleries in Speyside that it is usually considered a distinct
region). The
majority of
Scotch Whisky distilleries are located in this
area. Speyside
malt whiskies usually have a
complex flavor with the
peat and
smoke flavors less
pronounced than whisky from
Islay or the rest of the
Highlands.
Some good Speyside
whiskies include:
Knockando,
Aberlour and
Glenlivet.
