He was around since before the first age. Older than the hills. And his eyries are in the inaccessible peaks of the Encircling Mountains of Middle Earth. You know, where Bilbo and Frodo are from.
Anyway, he's a very obscure character in the Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings, both by J.R.R. Tolkien. Only referred to, and never interacted with. A giant eagle.
