A style of journalism in which the readers contribute to the news by writing their own reports. This is different from the simple letters to the editor in that the contributors (dubbed "citizen reporters") will have their reports printed anywhere.

The advent of the internet has made this much more accessible, with people logging in on their spare time and sending in reports. The reports are still edited as though they were in a regular newspaper.

It is seen by many as a tool to fight against the mainstream media by workers and counterculture movements.

A good example of this is Ohmynews, a Korean webnews service. Ohmynews was key in electing outsider candidate Roh Moo-Hyun for president in February 2003.
