Unicode 6.0

The current version of the Unicode standard is 6.0. It was released on October 11, 2010. The previous version was Unicode 5.2 and the next version might be Unicode 6.1. All the gory details can be found at http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode6.0.0/

Unicode 6.0 adds 2,088 new characters. These include 63 Emoticons, important for use in text messages, and support for three new scripts: Mandaic, Batak and Brahmi.
