The Foam-Flower
Vingilot was the ship that Eärendil the Mariner used to explore the great sea Belegaer. He sailed in it to the forbidden lands of Valinor, guided by the Silmaril. He built it with the aid of Círdan the Shipwright. It had golden oars, silver sails, and a swan-shaped prow. After he led a portion of the Edain to Númenor with it, it was set in the sky by Varda with the Silmaril as a star.
