In NetHack, blessed items have stronger or more useful effects than the uncursed versions. For some items, the effects just last longer or work better; for example, a potion of gain ability adds one point to a random stat when quaffed, but a blessed potion of gain ability adds one to all stats when quaffed -- very useful. Some items should almost always be blessed before use, such as a scroll of genocide.

To bless an item, dip it in holy water.
