decommission

The act of retiring a military vessel from active duty due to excessive damage, the retirement of an entire class of ship, or simply old age. The decommissioned ship is then usually either taken to a museum, a shipyard, or possibly just scuttled for parts.

Such a plant costs at least as much as a military vessel to build, but I don't think that I want to go to any museum that it is taken to. And I don't think that there is any old nuclear power plantyard it can be taken to, or scuttled for parts. (How could you scuttle a nuclear power plant?)
