A heavy
bell shaped device which was used for exploring and working
underwater. They would usualy have an air tube to supply fresh air. They were open at the bottem, the water being kept out by the
air pressure inside the bell.
In 1715 the first diving suit came along, and the diving bell started to fade out of the picture.
