Situation in hockey often found in the final minute or two of a one-goal game. The team that is trailing may remove their goaltender ("pull the goalie"), replacing him with an extra forward or defenseman. This allows the team to have an advantage should the puck be in their offensive end of the rink, with six skaters to the opposition's five.

Of course, there is a risk to this -- if the other team gains control of the puck and can hit the wide-open, six-foot-wide goal from 100-150 feet away, the game will essentially be over.
