Making a great first impression is not always a good thing. Sure it comes in useful for interviews and the like but in social situations like when making new friends, the brilliant first impression can be your worst enemy. You see you have to live up to that image if you want to keep it. You don’t want people to think you’ve deceived them or that you’re full of shit so unless you can keep all your promises then don’t make them.

Growing on people is much better, even if you get underestimated at first you can only go up in people’s estimations, you become trusted and appreciated for all the right reasons because you earn that trust over time.

There is probably too much value laid on the first impression. In a world consumed with superficiality where we recognise faces and logos more than achievements or principles it’s all too easy to forget the importance of a long term commitment but it is only that which will make you content and happy.
