Podiobooks are a mash-up of audiobooks and podcasts. An author who produces a podiobook records portions of a book as episodes that are released on a regular schedule. Podiobook enthusiasts often point out similarities that the podiobook format has with the way that most fiction used to be syndicated in magazines in the 19th and early 20th century. Many podiobook authors are writing hobbyists who want a way to get their work consumed without going to the effort of trying to get there book published. Other podiobook authors use the fanbase that they can build up with their podiobooks to try and sell their work to traditional dead-tree book publishers.
