A term from the game of Go (Wei Qi/Badouk). A move is called sente if it starts a sequence that will end on the other player's move, so that the person who started the sequence has the choice of where to play next (see sente node for a more detailed explanation). A move is called reverse-sente if it is gote (opposite of sente) for you, but removes the possibility of a particular sente move of your opponent's. In yose (endgame), it is important to analyze available moves to determine whether they are double-sente, sente, reverse-sente or gote. In general, moves should be played in that order, since retaining initiative (and denying it to your opponent) is important.
