School of Buddhist thought that maintains enlightenment (or awakening) is an all-or-nothing proposition. You either are enlightened or you are not. When it comes, it comes all at once.

Theravada Buddhism is a proponent of sudden enlightenment. In Mahayana school some believe in sudden enlightenment, while others in gradual enlightenment.
