Written by the punk rock band Pennywise, this song questions faith, and the purpose of religion. It questions why we should waste our time worrying about what happens after death, if we obviously won't find out till our final day comes. This song has been judged as atheist propoganda, but it's far from it. Even though it may denote Christianity, it brings out the truth that we are restricted by religion, and 'told how to live'.

I personally find this song brings closure to my struggle of trying to understand spirituality. The worries of what will happen to me after my judgement day fade away as I listen to the raging poetry within this song.

"Waste Of Time" by Pennywise on About Time (2:18min)

I got a question for all you sinners
Have you ever wondered is this all there is to life?
A quick adventure- Not much to mention
A slow procession leading us to die
Or is there a heaven- A distant valley
A golden meadow waiting for us in the sky
No one right answer spirit seems broken
Still I just can't help but wonder why
Seems like a tragic waste of time
Who cares what happens when you die?
Life's too short to wonder why
Get on with your life
In towering churches- And holy temples
They all conspired- To tell me how to live my life
But no religion- Or new theism
Could ever provide proof to quench my mind
And now I wonder- Who's sky I'm under
Is there a heaven- waiting for me when I die
No one right answer- Spirit seems broken
And still I can't help but wonder why
So many questions I can't tell the difference
Too many abstract thoughts now wrestle in my mind
But through the darkness somewhere should be waiting
A final truth to shower me with light
Their pearls of wisdom- And tales of glory
They fed me nicely until I found it was all a lie
No one right answer- Spirit seems broken
And still I can't help but wonder why

Looking at the lyrics (In towering churches- And holy temples. They all conspired- To tell me how to live my life) you can see the blatant remarks to how religion is another set of rules to constrict what you can and can't do. More rules to suppress your individuality and freedom.

You can see how the lyrics (Their pearls of wisdom- And takes of glory. They fed me nicely until I found it was all a lie.) shatter the stories of old talked about in the bible, and are remarked as lies and tales.

If you break down all the lyrics, you will see how poetic the song is and what it truly stands for. I'll stop here and leave the rest of the lyrics to your judgement.
