While some may maintain that one ought to enjoy one's work, the truth is that many of us not only do not, but do not want to. On the most simplistic level, the work to play ratio posits that one works in order to gain the means to play, but on the deeper level, it suggests the philosophy that the better course is to arrange things so that one is paid for one's play.

Personally, I find a work to play ratio of 30:70 to be most gratifying. The gratification being what keeps me from feeling like a wage slave.
