Most commonly known as part of a
company which you buy and can later sell (the aim is to gain
money by buying the stocks cheap and selling them when they rise) over the electronic
Stock Market.
Also used as a term in farming i.e. the stocks of cows.
The only other term I know of it is the base of a pillory (a medieval torture device) though know doubt there are probably more.
