A school run, at least in part, by the
Catholic Church. Usually on the same propery as, or at least associated with, a nearby church, Catholic schools usually have
priests or
nuns for teachers.
Catholic schools, due to the high degree of disclipline maintained, traditionally have a high reputation for academic excellence. However, large numbers of schools are either closing or consolidating due to difficulty in maintaining sufficient attendence and finding sufficient religious staff. Other schools have taken to hiring lay people for teachers.
Due to the high levels of strictness, and the corresponding urge to rebel, Catholic girls have acquired a certain reputation.
