The M240G Machine Gun is a 7.62 MM medium automatic weapon used by the United States Marine Corps ground forces. It is a variant of the M240/M240E1, coaxial/pintle mounted 7.62 MM machine guns used on tanks and LAVs, and replaces the M60E3 as the common medium machine gun of the Marine Corps. The M240G has many of the same characteristics as the M60 machine gun series, but is significantly more reliable and maintainable than its predecessor. The M240G features three regulator settings for controlling the rate of fire and has been modified for ground use with an "infantry modification kit." This kit includes a flash suppressor, front sight, carrying handle for the barrel, a buttstock, infantry length pistol grip, bipod, and rear sight assembly.
