Ben Seibel (say it "sy-BELL") is a
designer of
pottery and
dinnerware have made his work highly
collectable. His work can be described as "
retro" in 2001
parlance, but at the time of his work (from 1950s through the 1970s in the United States and
Europe), he was considered
ahead of his time.
His
signature works are pottery and dinnerware with bold, bright designs -- very busy patterns with many flowers, leaves and geometric shapes. His work is in
contrast with the mainstream designers of his time. They were going for an
elegant,
refined look in their work, while Seibel seemed to be going for bright and
bold. He used bright yellows and
avocado greens.
