I find myself alone many times too, and for being on a college campus, that is odd. But, when I am alone, I look at my purpose for being there. A majority of the time, it is because I chose it. I chose not to go to the mall; I chose not to go out; I chose not to go to dinner. For the rest of the times, I am alone merely because that is the circumstance: no one is home from class, everyone went home for the weekend, or I was late to join them and they left without me.

Being alone is something everyone needs from time to time. Being alone is the very creator of our character. Everyone fears being alone at some point in their life, whether it be going down to eat or walking to the store. Everyone wants someone else to be there as a back-up, as a provider of strength. But, the times that I do things alone are the things that I feel I accomplished the most. Because, I provided all of that strength myself, on my own.

While being alone seems to be quite miserable at times, if you look at it hard enough, much of our realizations are done when we are alone with our thoughts. We make our most important decisions in our heads while we are alone. It is the basis of building our character. If we can find the strength to be comfortable and happy when we are alone, not only will we grow to be stronger people, but we will have more time to our thoughts and more power to express our ideas and not be swayed by others choices.

"The person who has not learned to be happy and content while being completely alone for an hour, a day, or a week, has missed life's greatest serenity."
