One of the most amazing abilities of a person. Finding a way to not see, recognize, or admit to something incredibly obvious, often to keep their perception of reality, the world they live in as they believe it to be, consistent or pleasing.

I'm not any different from anyone else, really. Surely everyone else has experienced something similar, and just gotten past it. After all, I can't be different, being different is something special, and I know that's not me. I can work through this, and be normal.

It can be dangerous, as the longer denial goes on, the more of a psychological investment the person has made in keeping that view of things, and they will do more and more to defend that view. The more extended that denial, the more damage it can do when the bubble is burst, when they can no longer maintain that denial and must see the truth.
