Verse Poetry Valentine's Day Rose By Any Other Name
(A valentine's day verse)
I’m old enough
To remember when
Women were women
And men were men,
When the roses were red
And the violets were blue
And a man always did
What a man had to do.
Roses are not always red,
Nor violets only blue;
These days, who knows, when anything goes,
And false replaces true?
When a lass becomes a lad,
And a lad becomes a lass,
Or somewhere in between,
In a vain attempt to pass,
Is she really a violet,
Is she really a rose?
You can’t always tell
By the posture or the pose.
Your roses may be red,
And your violets blue,
But I’m not yet ready
To propose to you.
