A dreamy song, and a major contrast the the previous song on the album (21st Century Schizoid Man), I Talk to the Wind demonstrates the amazing versatility present in the King Crimson at this time. Considered by many to be the only disappointing song on the album, it's a mellow ballad punctuated by airy flutes and subtle exchanges between the major and minor modes. Still, despite it's comparative unpopularity with true fans, I Talk to the Wind serves an important duty in the lineup of one of rocks most important albums - that of the buffer between the harsh metallic sounds of Schizoid Man, and the acid-laced imagery of Epitaph.
