In 1864 General John Sedgwick was leading Union troops against Confederate lines at the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. As the rebels fired, the Union line began to waver. General Sedgwick rode out in front of his men and yelled what would be his last words: "Come on, men! They couldn't hit an elephant at that dist..."
