Horselover Fat (person)

Horselover Fat is a pseudonym for the author Philip K. Dick and is a character in his semi-autobiographical novel VALIS. It is worth pointing out the polyglot derivation of this name.

• In VALIS, Dick points out that his first name, "Philip" means "Horselover" in Greek. This is not quite true. While "phil" can mean "lover," as in "philosopher," or "technophile," and ippos does mean "horse," in ancient Greek, it's not correct to just stick them together. Perhaps I'm being a pedant, but this is pidgin Greek at best.
• The word "dick" in German means "fat".
