State of the Dreamcast

E2 is all about timelessness, so since no one else has bothered to mention this, please allow me the pleasure.

Sega has officially abandoned the Dreamcast and is now a full-time third party developer. Sega has extended its excellent franchises (Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, etc...) to today's (mid-2002) consoles, the Sony Playstation 2, the Nintendo Gamecube, and the Microsoft Xbox.

It is strange why such a wonderful console would just cease to exist. It has been phased out of today's stores (Dreamcast shelves are either nearly empty or simply not there) and hasn't been heard of in a while. Too bad, though, since its graphics engine was, at the time of its arrival, superior. Unfortunately, the controller was a little awkward, but it was nifty in some twisted way, with the build-in LCD and memory card ports. Hell, it even had a built-in network adapter. Isn't it strange, though, how history tends to repeat itself?
