Their sound on this album is very different to 1996's Slap in the Face. I hear a lot more 'fullness' - they use synthesizer, saxophone, piano and electric guitar more(or at least it seems so), and in general the other intruments also seem more 'upfront'.
I don't think it's the change in sound that makes me dislike this album, after all, I really like One Day Soon, Karma's previous album. One of my problems with this album is, it's too African. Come on, there's Pennywhistle on I Should've Known. But, the main problem, in my opinion, is the lyrics just don't do anything for me. They don't seem as personal as they should be. The only song I like lyrically is I Should've Known, but it's no Just or Tempted to Stay.
