against the windowpane
imagined sitting on it, like a waif in a painting.
Below that edge of sharp light was a single teardrop
Venus blinking on and off
a clear blue beacon
All of this, on the edge of her vision
high above the horizon, past rooftops and power lines
only slightly higher than her fingertips.
