she would craft perfect lyrics
and set them to a grimoire.
Of long pauses.
Things left unsaid.
Hush.

To break the still.
Shatter stone.
Rise Elijah,
discarding face
for fire--

But voices crack.
A hymn, broken.
Screams in the wilderness
swallowed by sky.

Keep to the streams,
subterranean.
Drowning is
the most tranquil of deaths.
