This is the person in a child's life who becomes a "guideline" for males to the child during the developmental years. Often the biological father, othertimes a step-parent, uncle, or some other male authority figure.

I did not have a "father figure" growing up; due to an absent father, and lack of male role models when I was young. This has lead to many dumb issues I have with men I had relationships with, and men in general.

When I was young, I decided I needed to become someone males would not want to leave, or ditch. I did this during a developmental period, all based on the perception of a 5 year old girl. Yeah, yeah .. issues.

This all may seem very trite now, but realizing this as an adult can help promote healthy relationships.
