• The War of the Roses continues in England. In March, Yorkist king Edward IV puts down a rebellion secretly fomented by his disaffected former ally Richard, Earl of Warwick at the Battle of Losecote Field. Summoned to explain himself, Warwick instead flees to France where raises a new army. Returning to England, he successfully joins up with the Lancastrian forces, causing Edward to flee to Burgundy. Warwick then frees Henry VI from the Tower of London and places him on the throne, briefly restoring power to the House of Lancaster after 8 1/2 years of Yorkist rule.
• Following the Ottoman victory in the Siege of Negroponte, the Venetian-ruled Greek island of Euboea falls to the Ottomans.
• Johann Heynlin introduces the printing press to France and publishes the first book ever printed in France, a collection of letters by grammarian Gasparinus de Bergamo, the Epistolae Gasparini.
