Another variation of coffee designed by the Italians.
A very easy recipe: Pour an espresso shot over a scoop of ice cream. Traditionally vanilla ice cream is used, but being creative with different flavours can prove quite tasty.
An affogato makes for a delicious coffee/dessert dish in one. The hot espresso melts the ice cream, and the ice cream removes the need for adding milk or sugar. Mixing the ice cream into the coffee turns the affogato more into a sweet coffee, or you can treat it as an ice cream dish with the espresso as the topping, and eat it with a spoon.
The affogato can be found on coffee menus in most good restaurants and cafes in Australia. It can also be referred to as 'caffe con gelato'-(literally, 'coffee with ice cream'.)
