There is a long-standing tradition in fantasy literature of depicting dragons as hoarders of treasure, from Fafnir in the Nibelungenlied, to Smaug in Tolkien's The Hobbit. "Hoard lust" seems an apt phrase. Humans do this too, entering into a cycle of acquisition and storage. Sigmund Freud theorized that adult spending behavior is related to formative experiences with toilet training. Dragons and wealth addicts are metaphorically constipated, in need of a HHH emotional enema.
