U.S. military officials released a list of Iraqs' most wanted, in the form of a deck of playing cards. Each card has the picture, name, and rank of a prominent Iraqi official on the front, and a simple camo pattern on the back. The deck includes 52 playing cards, and 2 jokers.

Note: The following names are the spellings used on the cards themselves, and may not be the spellings commonly used. When applicable, I have pipe-linked the name to an existing node on the individual. This text is taken straight from the PDF of playing cards (source at end of writeup), and all (mis)spellings and grammatical errors have been left in their original format. Or in other words, the Typo Death Squad might as well leave this one alone and move on.

Asterisks (*) denote cards that don't have a picture. Dollar Signs ($) denote officials that are in US custody. Ampersands (&) denote officials that have been killed.

Update (03.25.04): It looks like America's game of 52-pickup with Iraq is almost over, with all the Aces captured or killed, most of the face cards in custody, and only 10 total remaining.

Iraqi tribal names were dropped starting in the 1970s. Many Iraqi last names in documents include the tribal name, for example, al-Tikiriti, which is very common among leading regime figures. Iraq decreed again in the 1990s that Military officers were not to use their tribal names.

Example: Muhammad Mullah Husayn Al-Tikiriti

First Name: Muhammad
Middle Name(s): Husayn (Note: I think this should actually be Mullah)
Reference Name: Husayn
Tribal Name: Al-Tikiriti

Although the CentCom website claims that these cards are not for sale or distribution, I have found them available for sale at http://www.card-press.com/iraqi%20playing%20cards.htm. It's pretty damned obvious that you can find packs of these cards anywhere.

GrouchyOldMan says re Iraq Most Wanted Playing Cards: Hi there, FYI, the company that originally made these cards for the U.S. Military sells them online at: greatusaflags.com

If you know of any nodes involving these people/places that differ in spelling from the cards, /msg me and I'll pipelink them. Additionally, do the same if any of these Top 52 get captured and I don't update their card with a $ in a reasonable period of time.

In addition, this is my 70th writeup and will propel me to Level 3. /me bows and thanks everyone who helped along the way
