Jiān jiān「奸渐」

Originally composed in Chinese:

奸渐恋拌吕
剑建捋伴娘
鹣鹣虑伴郎
鉴兼两伴侣

Pīnyīn transliteration:

Jiān jiān liàn bàn lǚ
Jiàn jiàn lǚ bàn niáng
Jiānjiān lǚ bàn láng
Jiàn jiān liǎngbàn lǚ

Rough English translation (circa 1981):

Forbidden desire saturates their love, like musical notes,
A sword imagines, caresses the bridesmaid,
A lonely one-winged phoenix ponders the best man,
The mirror doubles the mates; once a pair, now there are four.

Draft translation, April 2008:

Lovers drown in lust's duet.
Sword imagines, caresses bridesmaid skin;
Lonesome phoenix wants a groomsman within.
Mirror multiplies mates, makes a quartet.
