News for Nerds is the majority of content on Slashdot. Oppose stuff that matters. This is considered utterly boring by non-nerds. By nerds, it is considered ubercool.

In order to be "news for nerds", a newsbit must contain one or more of the following terms. "Linux", "Beowulf Cluster", "Micros~1", "Open Source" "KDE", "Gnome", "GNU", "Windows Sucks", "Bill Gates Blows" or "Everything"

For example Earth to be destroyed by a giant asteroid is not "news for nerds", while Earth to be destroyed by a beowulf cluster of asteriods running an open source operating system derived from Linux is indeed, considered "news for nerds"
