Philadelphia's NHL franchise, entered the league in 1967. Winners of 2 Stanley Cups (in 1974 and 1975). They once played in the Spectrum and now play in the oft-renamed First Union Center, the "FU Center" to locals. Famous players: Bernie Parent, Bobby Clarke, Eric Lindros, Dave "The Hammer" Schultz. They play in the NHL: Atlantic Division.
Recent success came with the Legion of Doom line, but several concussions to the big E and a contract dispute with the GM, the selfsame Bobby Clarke, finished that off forever.
BTW, that's Rod Brind'Amour (who now plays for the Carolina Hurricanes).
Team colors: Orange, black and white. Also, in the glory days, black and blue.
Retired Numbers:
- #1 Bernie Parent
- #4 Barry Ashbee
- #5 Dmitri Tertyshny, 1976-1999 - a young defenceman killed in a boating accident¹.
- #7 Bill Barber
- #16 Bobby Clarke
- #99 Wayne Gretzky (league-wide retirement)
