In the UK, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, a registered charity formed in the early Twentieth Century (their website says "over 80 years ago") to advise the public and provide guidance on all matters of safety - "at work, in the home, and on the roads, in schools, at leisure and on (or near) water."1
RoSPA is responsible for the well-known Green Cross Code, as well as many other safety initiatives. UK readers will be familiar with their often horrific firework safety campaigns, for example.
Their website is available at two URLs - http://www.rospa.com and http://www.rospa.co.uk, but at the time of writing will not serve pages to Safari or Mozilla on a Mac, so caveat browser.
