A german beer brand
Schöfferhofer is a brand by the german Binding brewery, located in Hessia and was the first german wheatbeer brewed outside Bavaria. Of course, the Bavarians were quick to condemn a abomination like this, as Bavaria is home to classics like Weihenstephan, Erdinger and Paulaner.
Nevertheless, it's now the fourth most popular weizenbier brand in Germany and gets pretty good reviews.
The current product line-up is :
- Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen: an unfiltered, yeasty, beautifully brewed beer with slight banana aroma and a strong fruity palate.
- Schöfferhofer Kristallweizen: filtered of its yeast and arguably less attractive in its taste. Less fruity, slightly harsher on the palate.
- Schöfferhofer Dunkles (dark) Hefeweizen: Strong, rich and malty. Nothing for beginners, and certainly an acquired taste.
The brand is exported throughout the world, and I was able to pick it up in supermarkets in New Zealand, U.K., U.S., Australia and Asia. It is easily recognisable due to a bright orange label on a classic german 0.5 litre bottle.
