Six Flags Great America is a large
amusement park based in Gurnee, Illinois just north of
Chicago, IL opened on May 29th, 1976. SFGAm (as it is abbreviated by some coaster enthusiasts), was originally Marriott’s Great America before being taken over by
Six Flags. SFGAm currently boasts eleven
roller coasters (considering one was just removed and a new one is going up in it’s place) with four “past” coasters. The following is a current and past roller coaster list in chronological order.

- Demon – 1976 – Arrow Steel Looper – 90’ drop, 50mph (originally named Turn of the Century until 1980 when renamed to Demon)
- Tidal Wave (past coaster) – 1978 – Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop – 137’10” drop, 57mph (relocated to Six Flags Over Georgia in 1991 as Viper)
- American Eagle – 1981 - Intamin Twin Wooden – 147’ drop, 66mph
- Z-Force (past coaster) – 1985 – Intamin Steel Space Diver – 86’ drop, 35 mph (relocated to Six Flags Over Georgia in 1987)
- Shockwave (past coaster) – 1988 - Arrow Steel Looper – 155’ drop, 65mph (dismantled in 2002)
- Rolling Thunder (past coaster) – 1989 – Intamin Bobsled – 64’ drop (relocated from Six Flags Great Adventure as Sarajevo Bobsled and relocated to Great Escape in 1995 as Alpine Bobsled)
- Iron Wolf – 1990 – Bolliger & Mabillard Stand-Up – 90’ drop, 55mph
- Batman The Ride – 1992 - Bolliger & Mabillard Inverted – 100’ drop, 50mph
- Viper – 1995 – Wooden Cyclone – 80’ drop, 50mph
- Spacely’s Sprocket Rockets – 1998 – Vekoma Junior Coaster – 33’ drop, 18mph
- Raging Bull – 1999 - Bolliger & Mabillard Steel Hypercoaster – 208’ drop, 73 mph
- Vertical Velocity (aka V2) – 2001 – Intamin Inverted LIM/LSM Shuttle – 185’ drop, 65mph
- Déjà vu – 2001 – Vekoma Giant Inverted Boomerang Shuttle – 196’ drop, 65 mph
- “Unknown” – 2003 - Bolliger & Mabillard Flying – Not officially announced but is obviously under construction replacing the ground where Shockwave was built.
