Stephen Sondheim wrote the
music and
James Lapine wrote the
script. It opened on
Broadway on May 2, 1984.
The main characters are Georges Seurat, who painted A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, and his girlfriend, Dot. In the original production, George was played by Mandy Patinkin and Dot by Bernadette Peters.
This production requires more special effects than the average episode of Star Trek. Brent Spiner had a small part in the Broadway production.
