Washington running back and Super Bowl MVP John Riggins ran for a new record of 166 yards to help the Redskins beat the Dolphins, earning the 'skins their first title since 1942.
Miami played a close game in the first half, but the 'skins had a better offensive game overal, gaining 400 total yards in offense. Miami was pretty much shut down in the second half, gaining only 34 yards after the halftime break.
Attendance for the game was 103,667. Second year coach Joe Gibbs coached the Washington team, while Don Shula's Super Bowl coaching record went down to 2-and-3 with this game.
