TiK was a project originally started by AOL to provide an open protocol and client for AIM that Unix users could use. Written in pure tcl/tk, TiK came with documentation of the TOC protocol, which is a gateway to the proprietary OSCAR protocol that the Windows and Mac OS clients use.

TiK was discontinued by AOL without notice, but development continues by the open source community, and its current code is hosted at SourceForge. The TOC server, however, is no longer being updated.

TiK's name was a lame attempt at a pun. It was the client for TOC. TiK/TOC, get it? ehhh, huh huh huh... TOC was also a pun, being pronounced "talk". Those guys at AOL smoke too much crack.
