Actor Hugh Jackman is not only known for his portrayal of the superhero Wolverine in Marvel's X-Men film series, he is also an award-winning musical theatre performer on stage, with notable roles in Sunset Boulevard, Oklahoma!, and The Boy from Oz. He has also shared his musical talents in the film adaptation of Les Miserables and in multiple appearances on the Tony Awards.

On July 16, 2013, the comedy/puppet team known as Glove and Boots released "Wolverine: The Musical!", a short video featuring a puppet likeness of Jackman dressed as Wolverine, singing, or rather, growling through a mashup of several parodies of Broadway melodies, specifically "Put on Your Sunday Clothes," from Hello, Dolly!; "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin', from Oklahoma!; "Fugue for Tinhorns," from Guys and Dolls; a brief instrumental parody of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark; "The Music of the Night," from The Phantom of the Opera; and "Cell Block Tango," from Chicago. Wolverine is joined by puppets of the Hulk, Spider-Man, and multiple copies of Multiple Man.

The viral video managed to attract some buzz, as it was released the week before The Wolverine movie, although competition from media and internet coverage of The San Diego Comic-Con kept the page views modest.

The idea of combining Jackman's musical talents with the brooding mutant he plays in films was not new.

In 2009, Indy Mogul created a short film for YouTube, "Wolverine: the Musical!", featuring Mark Douglas as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine breaking into song on the set of an X-Men film. Douglas, who wrote original songs for the short, in a pastiche of musical theatre styles, even managed to sing like Jackman. Since its release, the video has received nearly a million views on Indy Mogul's channel and over a million on Barely Political.

2009 also saw the actual actor Hugh Jackman singing an impromptu mini-musical, featuring Wolverine and Deadpool action figures, as part of a press junket interview promoting X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

And the joke goes on. In 2014, Jackman would gamely sing Wolverine songs to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past (The Matt Edmondson Show: https://youtu.be/EvRtKMxc88Q; Interview by Daniele Rizzo: https://youtu.be/IPixp-L9-x0?t=13m4s)
